ACA Graduate Trainee
Gilberts, a well-respected and long-established firm of Chartered Accountants, is seeking to recruit ambitious trainees to join their team. Based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, you will work closely with clients, building key relationships and providing audit, accounting, personal and corporate tax, and other value added services. We have a wide range of clients from individuals, sole traders, partnerships, SME limited companies, groups, subsidiaries and larger corporate clients with turnovers up to £80 million. You will be exposed to data analytics within audit, open banking technologies and cloud computing, naturally developing skills in these areas. You will need:
- Minimum 2.1 degree or expected result (we do not specify a degree subject) or equivalent qualification such as AAT level 4
- Minimum 120 new tariff UCAS points
- Excellent numeracy skills with attention to detail and problem solving abilities
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT abilities
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) grade 6 or above (grade B or above prior to 2017)
- Resilient, eager to learn and committed to pursuing a career as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant
- Willingness to handle responsibility
- The continuous right to work in the UKto handle responsibility
Exposure to Data Analytics, Open Banking Technology & Cloud Computing
- Company and specialist audit work
- Year end and management accounts work
- Preparation of corporation tax returns and computations
- Preparation of income tax returns and computations
- Use of accounting software such as Xero, Sage and Quickbooks
- Company statutory work
- Preparation of VAT returns, P11Ds and other Inland Revenue and Customs documents

Our trainees will have direct contact with clients and their staff
We will help you to get the right mix of work experience and expect you to take responsibility for projects and people as soon as you are ready. In addition, you will also acquire strong IT, communication and management skills.
And work is split between our St Albans office and out at clients’ premises – with the majority of travel being within the Hertfordshire area, but, occasionally further afield.
We use a leading firm of accountancy tutors
They help you prepare for and pass your examinations. The exam study method they implement, which we have found to be the most effective, is a combination of a home study programme and study leave to attend courses spread throughout the duration of your three year training contract.
